How I made my own raised beds using scraps of timber!
I'm no expert, but I can show you how I've done it,
=)

Trim planks to required size using saw. We balanced them on the side of another raised bed.
Stair Rail wood, approx 3 planks deep (enough to attach 2 planks and leave some spare to stick in the ground)
Planks of wood (minimum 8, 4 one size and 4 another)
Saw
Nail gun
Nails
Electric screw driver
Screws
Spirit level
Wood Stain
Paint brushes
First thing we did was select similar sized pieces of wood to build up the sides and trimmed one of the stair rail pieces to create the side supports and posts to stick into the ground.

Planks are nail gunned to the posts with a central post for added support.

After all sides have been nailed into place, we added screws for added strength

Using the spirit level, slowly knock it into the ground.

Use wood stain to protect the wood so it lasts longer.

Stain inside and out before filling with soil. Some people put a layer of weed guard inside but I've cleared the area of weeds.
